Google PageRank & Algorithm Updates – Search Engine Roundtable. Penguin – Penguin was launched in 2012 and was aimed at eliminating spammy links and link networks. While most of these are pretty minor updates, we have seen an increased number of larger updates occur over the past few years and that isn’t expected to slow down.

I started in SEO in 2012, right around the time of Penguin, and so I did a lot of cleanup of so many spammy links.
