Summary: consolidation isn't new among marketing software vendors. As I wrote in my June 30 post on consolidation among marketing automation vendors , I expect the number of competitors to shrink fairly quickly as new buyers concentrate their purchases among a handful of leading vendors. The obvious candidates are CRM vendors.

Infusionsoft argues that their partner network is a competitive barrier that would be hard for another software vendor to overcome. As usual at these conferences, I spent a good chunk of my time cruising the exhibition floor for interesting new vendors. Two other vendors also caught my eye. I’m pretty sure they’re right.

I do recognize that they are the best known vendors in the space (with apologies to Vtrenz , whose identity is somewhat blurred since its purchase by Silverpop ). To be fair, many of the vendors below charge an installation of that can be several thousand dollars or more, while Marketo doesn't. I reviewed it here in March.

But the system does offer a comprehensive solution for smaller firms and, at least on the CRM side, can integrate with more powerful solutions including Salesforce.com , Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Siebel CRM On Demand. It merged in 2007 with online forms vendor AxiomFire and assumed its current name in January 2009.

My little tour of demand generation vendors landed at Pardot just before Thanksgiving. As you’ll recall from my post on Web activity statistics , Pardot is one of the higher-ranked vendors not already in the Raab Guide to Demand Generation Systems. So I was quite curious to see what they had to offer. What I found was intriguing.
