A search for "social media strategy" returns over 7 million Web hits and nearly 500,000 blog posts on google. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, your blog - where is your audience already hanging out, where would they be most likely to visit if you invited them, where can you execute most effectively on the "Why" items that got you involved in social in the first place? HOW Now you're down to the super nitty-gritty, but this is actually the easiest part. If you're just starting out in social, the prospect of sifting through all that information might make you want to throw the towel in before you start.

We’re about to see the evolution of a fifth form of communication, and it will have an equally interesting effect on our lives. Passive conversation discovery, guided by the algorithms of Google and Bing and their analysis of vast amounts of social media data, may be the way we discover what conversations are happening that may be of interest. Much like Amazon’s book recommendation systems which looks at “people like us” We're pleased to present a guest post by Steven Woods , CTO of Eloqua and author of Digital Body Language, who shares his thoughts on where communication is headed -- and how marketers can prepare. Over time, the way in which communication happens has gone through some very interesting transitions.

It's surprisingly difficult, however, to get meaningful data on the average click-through rate (CTR) for Google AdWords ads. On the B2B side, I'd place the average Google AdWords CTR in the range of 0.9-1.4%. So—how can you optimize your Google AdWords CTR to beat those averages? A previous post here covered average click-through rates for email newsletter advertising, email campaigns and website banner ads. As noted, DoubleClick provides fairly reliable data across those media.

Still, we know in our bones that positive word of mouth has a positive effect on sales. The only effective argument I’ve heard recently is that we embed calls to action in social media that drive readers to a landing page where we capture their information and start nurturing them as leads. To oversimplify it, if you want to sell more ERP software , you should use keywords like “enterprise software,” a lot on your blog so that Google associates your blog with your company’s area of expertise. Personally, I think it’s important to determine your baseline measurements to gauge the effectiveness of your strategies over time. While ad equivalence can be used too, I’m not a fan of this method as I point out in my next bullet point.

8221; It’s now the second most-visited site on the web , behind only Google.
While it may produce a lead now and then, it isn’t a very effective lead generation vehicle. Still, with realistic expectations, using Facebook as a means to put a human face (or faces) on a B2B brand can be one effective component of an overall social media marketing strategy.

Is Google turning into Pat? hope not; I remain a fan and prefer to believe there's still hope for Google —and I'm not saying that merely out of fear of retribution. (Actually, Actually, I think that's past tense, considering that this copycat page gets a spot on the first page of Google while my original article on how to get bloggers to write about you doesn't show up in the top 100 positions. In the Disney movie Smart House , "Pat" (for P ersonal A pplied T echnology) turns from a helpful cyber-maid who makes life more efficient and convenient into an intrusive, abusive and overbearing omnipresence who attempts to take complete control over what her charges are able to see and do.
