Once again Salesforce.com has delivered a great set of new features for Marketers in the Winter 10 release. If you are still catching up from the last release check out this post on Marketing features from Salesforce.com Summer 09 . New Campaign Features: Campaign Scoreboard is a new feature that provides two benefits- Campaign Summaries and Dynamic Campaign Viewing. This is more relevant than ever since marketers may wish to use Salesforce.com to track You will see that you are using the new release because your system will have a new image at the top left of your home page of a snowman with the number 10 in his hands.

From its beginnings, Salesforce.com has emphasized its online delivery model with its "No Software" positioning, even snagging 1-800-NO SOFTWARE as its toll-free line. While the application service provider (ASP) or software-as-a-service (SaaS) model in general has never lived up to its initial hype, among consumers or business users, Salesforce.com has enjoyed impressive success with it. Salesforce.com While the company's success with sales and marketing users is hardly news at this point, I was surprised in doing some research recently at how successful the No Software campaign has been among another group: enterprise software developers.

The plan is to go back to using only Salesforce.com with some cheap add-on tools for email, form submission and data quality. However, when I started looking into Salesforce.com and the wide variety of add-ons, I was less convinced. The Salesforce.com database has some big issues (e.g. I’m working on an interesting project right now: moving away from a marketing automation system. Smart or foolish?

Luckily, all Marketing Automation systems can be connected to Salesforce.com and often also to other CRM systems.
In a earlier post I wrote about an project to use Salesforce.com instead of a Marketing Automation system : the conclusion was that you need a whole range of add-ons to make it work, sort-of. Last week I presented a session at Silverpop’s B2B Marketing University in Atlanta. In addition to Marketing Automation, there were two big topics: Social Media and CRM.

At this Dreamforce 2009 session led by Fernando Obregon Almazan, salesforce.com; Lorena Vales, salesforce.com; and Jonathan Hersh, salesforce.com, marketers learned about how and why companies should participate in social networking to generate brand awareness and create a viral effect when clients or prospects recommend their products.
