grow - Practical Marketing Solutions

Guest post by {grow} community member Krysia Hepatica. As a newly-divorced mom, being both back on the dating scene and trying to establish a new career, my life has been anything but dull. Because I was married at such a young age, I missed out on a lot dating and the drama that goes along with it. Yes, I have recently had an a-ha moment.  Rule #1 Get Noticed! Research Sheds More Light On Why People Follow Brands Via Social Media

Over the last year, several studies have shown that people mainly start to follow brands on social media because of discounts and promotions. Once a social connection between a brand and a follower/fan is established, the continuity of it depends on your unique social proposition. In other words: what you have to offer matters most. [.]. E-Books: The Next Front for Journalists in Transition

B2B Memes

Over the weekend, I read a couple of blog posts that highlighted for me the shifting battlefront in the digital-media wars. Twitter is no longer a matter for debate among thinking journalists. Twitterland is settled, and the analog natives have either converted or consigned themselves to the dustbin of history. The next front is something quite different: e-books. In response to a reader of his superb recent series of posts on why and how to use Twitter, Steve Buttry addressed the question of how to handle curmudgeonly journalists who continue to resist it. He gave two answers. Probably not.

Savvy B2B Marketing

We're pleased to present this guest post by Britton Manasco, who specializes in helping companies establish thought leadership and enable their sales teams to engage more prospects and close more business. Read on for his insightful thoughts on what it takes to earn the trust of prospective buyers. Trust is essential to successful selling, particularly if you are engaged in a high impact sale. But here’s the problem. Trust is now trading at a higher premium than ever. Why is that? Well, look around. Unpleasant factors that once were cyclical seem to have to have become structural.

Watch Out! Google Is Now a Publisher

Junta 42

If you did not hear the news, a few weeks ago Google purchased Zagat , one of the largest and most respected media companies devoted to restaurant reviews ( see the company announcement here ). Most reviews of the buyout, like this one from the NY Times , were focused on how Zagat’s user-generated reviews fit quite nicely with Google’s focus on localized search, which now can go head-to-head against services like Yelp. To me, it’s something a bit more. To publishers and content marketers, the purchase means that Google is now positioning itself as a creator of content.

Is Your Sales Team Losing Out On Opportunities To Your Competitors?

Sales Prospecting Perspectives

One of the primary goals of any sales team is to find all potential buyers in their target market(s). There are 2 key areas to look at to ensure your company is finding these buyers before your competitors are getting to them: 1) Are ALL marketing generated inquiries followed up on EFFECTIVELY? How persistent and effective is your team at getting a response to marketing inquiries? 2) What does your team’s outbound call strategy look like? Are you confident that your team is reaching ALL of the potential buyers in your target market that didn’t get pulled through your marketing team?

Search Wars? Just Wait For The Social Wars.

Rewind to the year 2000. There was an explosion in internet innovation. The stock market was starting to get shaky. Lycos, Yahoo!, Infoseek and Excite had sewn up internet search. Publishers were benefiting from search engines driving traffic to their sites. Instead of AOL’s, Prodigy’s and CompuServe’s closed web, search engines were a massive boon to the open, distributed web. They became massive sources of traffic to publishers and retailers, large and small. And then came little Google. It was simple. It was fast. The results were better. And so began the war for publisher distribution.

745 marketers told us how effective their content marketing is. Between November 5 and November 17, we surveyed 601 marketers with an 18-question online survey. A few weeks later, Adweek sent the questionnaire to 144 additional marketers. As the survey was answered by nearly our entire population target, the calculated margin of error was approximately 1 percent. Here's what we learned.

7 Tips for New Managers

Manhattan Marketing Maven

The hardest but most rewarding career transition is from individual contributor to first time manager. The first step on the ladder is the steepest because it is the most ego challenging and because it forces each individual to think and act differently.    In most organizations the path to fame and fortune requires you to manage and succeed through the efforts of other people. In many cases the people you will manage aren’t as fast, smart, well intentioned or skilled as you are. So, from the get-go, you have to get over yourself and focus on them.  You are a coach. Don’t!
