CMO Council: CMOs and CIOs Are Not Aligned

Summary: a CMO Council survey shows that CMOs and CIOs agree they need to cooperate, but disagree on how well they're doing and what their roles should be. The CMO Council generously shared the detailed data with me. But the majority of both groups also listed the CMO as a digital marketing leader. You decide.

CMO Council Study Highlights Consumer Security Concerns

The CMO Council ( www.cmocouncil.org ) just released initial results from a major study, “Secure the Trust of Your Brand”, on how information security impacts customer attitudes. The initial report is a survey of consumer attitudes. 40% have stopped a transaction online, on the phone or in a retail store due to a security concern.

Third Party Data Is Not Dead Yet

Duke Fuqua’s most recent CMO Survey found that use of online (first party) customer data has grown at 63% of companies in the past two years while just 31% expanded use of third party data. Remember that the CMO surveys cited earlier showed expectations for slower growth, not actual declines.
