I can remember how people were taken aback by Loren McDonald’s open-rate rant from way back in 2008, Why the Open Rate Must Die. For other marketers, the open rate is a metric they clung to since it was first introduced at the dawn of HTML email. It also fulfills the warnings made long ago when fewer people were listening.
