But I shut down my social media notifications in between those times. I'm not saying anything against social media. Social media rocks! I've been spending more time than usual on social media recently - networking, chatting away and having a blast. I also used the social media 'busy time' to duck the things I really didn't want to deal with in my 'other' life. Quite the contrary. | PHOENIX RISING DECEMBER 31, 2009 Think Small Thanks to social media friends and family - I'll be getting small acts of kindness all year as well. It's the day for New Year's Resolutions yet again. We're all making our lists of ways to be better people, do better things, spread joy to more of those around us. What a worthy cause! So why wait til New Year's? We can make those same resolutions every day of our lives. Just as the spirit of the Holidays can inspire us - resolutions to do good things can lift us every day of the year. Small acts can make a huge difference. | | | | | | | PHOENIX RISING JANUARY 24, 2010 No DMs Please I am amazed at the Power of Twitter and other Social Media platforms to network with like-minded folks. I'm also continuously shocked at the seeming lack of just plain common sense (or maybe in this case it's common courtesy) from folks on social media - especially Twitter. Just when I thought it was bad - it got worse. We all know how annoying all the Twitter 'Thanks for following' DMs are, right? Mine have become downright out of control these days. It's worse than email because I can't block Tweets. | PHOENIX RISING FEBRUARY 7, 2010 Twisten Carefully ' I was yet again surprised by the premise of the article - that the power of social networking is being hijacked by frivolous, not-important-at-all information. That's one of the best things about social media - Twitter especially. That's what social media is all about IMHO. Harvard Business Review ran an article last week entitled ' Let's Tweet About Something Important! We all know there's a lot of noise out there. People can share whatever they feel like sharing. And there's my point. | PHOENIX RISING FEBRUARY 21, 2010 Assumptions Anyone? Social media gives power to our assumptions. Social media enables all of us to make our assumptions known. The media has been hyping the battle between Microsoft and Google for all its worth. That assumption - fueled by the medias, social and public - leads to a conclusion that Google spent $3M to buy Super Bowl ads all because of Bing. There's an old saying about assumptions. Remember? Have you ever found yourself disagreeing with someone - wondering how in the heck they could see the situation in their way? | PHOENIX RISING JULY 15, 2009 A Shiny Needle in the B2B Marketing Haystack Tom: There are topic-focused content aggregators and quasi-publications like Social Media Today for social media and Search Engine Journal for SEO, but there was nothing specifically focused on B2B marketing. Alltop, Social Media Today and most aggregators try to take that content to produce a new destination. Tony: I would add that one of the nice things about the system is that it uses social filtering to surface the best stuff. Social filtering will bring the meaty stuff to the top. | | | | | | | | | -
PHOENIX RISING | SUNDAY, MARCH 7, 2010 Sensationalism is not Expertise! Many of us have been discussing this sad state on our own blogs or behind the scenes of social media. Scott focused on the industry Gurus - the A-List bloggers and social media-powered gurus who are selling out to reach for fame and fortune. Scott McKain wrote a post on Friday that got me going, I ntellectual Dishonesty. It's an eloquent rant concerning the growing negativity and sensationalism created by supposed industry 'gurus', all for the sake of ratings and followers. IN the end that behavior all boils down to MONEY and EGO. So go read his post. MORE >> -
PHOENIX RISING | SUNDAY, AUGUST 23, 2009 The Ghost and Our Integrity understand that sometimes companies need help learning to create a social media presence. Audiences view social media as the safe ground for truth and integrity. The topic of ghostblogging and Tweeting is popping up everywhere. I even saw a Tweet last week touting that a VA (Virtual Assistant) can write your company's blog. can't believe we're even having this debate. Especially among those who claim to believe in integrity and honesty above all, who strive to create trusted relationships with our customers. So, answer this question for me. MORE >> -
PHOENIX RISING | TUESDAY, MARCH 2, 2010 If it Looks like a Duck. But thanks to social media that behavior has expanded to include all of us. Whether it's on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or the host of other social media sites. That's especially true with the freedom to speak - now available through social media. The freedom to share has increased our debates. used to think some people took a contrarian point of view just to feel important. We all know those types. We revel in our new power. Yet I have to wonder if some of this freedom is counter-productive. But if not. MORE >> -
PHOENIX RISING | THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2009 We CAN be Civilized! The news literally flooded the social media universe. Signs are all around that we're sliding down a slippery slope. It's obvious to so many of us that 'society' is moving beyond civilization - following the path of the once great Roman and Greek cultures. Business priorities are questionable, personal lives are filled with violence and disrespect. The mighty quest for success seems to be rising above all things, including dignity, honesty, common courtesy and even our own kids. He is a beacon of strength and positive thinking. MORE >> -
PHOENIX RISING | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2010 Keepers of the Truth The internet and social media changed that forever. Reality comes from our markets, not ourselves. seek customer, prospect and partner feedback before I ever begin to brainstorm a strategy. Clients often ask me why I don’t take their word for where they are and what they do. It’s not that I don’t believe them. It’s that I don’t believe any of us can clearly see today’s reality through the eyes of our buyers. We’re too busy managing the day-to-day in our overloaded lives. Customer opinions are the only ones that matter. MORE >>
