Spam I Am, Green Eggs and Spam!

PR Meets Marketing

This can of worms got started with Chris Anderson's post regarding his frustration with PR spam. David Meerman Scott chimes in his post about blocking PR folks as well. As someone who tries not to send obvious form letters, this is both refreshing and disconcerting. Even good PR folks may not hit the mark all the time, so what happens - would they get blocked for a slightly off target pitch?

Anything Goes Marketing

While there is a big push these days to get to the true ROI of your online marketing campaigns, we don't seem to be there yet. According to a Penton Media Custom Research study commissioned by PROMO Magazine , click-throughs and response rates are still mostly used to measure the success of marketing campaigns. Red Sox Wins World Series

PR Meets Marketing

The Red Sox won the World Series last night. have to admit, until I met my husband, I didn't have a baseball team. first became enamored with the team in 2004. The story of the Red Sox captured everyone's attention. The improbable run. The interesting personal stories. Down 3-0 in the series to come back and beat their nemesis! Thank Dave Robert's 9 th inning steal for keeping the Sox Nation alive.

Americans Hate Canadians

Anything Goes Marketing

I'm pretty steamed at the moment. don't know how else to explain this but to say that Americans hate their brothers and sisters to the North. Are you guys jealous of our health care system or something? What is it?? If you try and access TV show episodes like The Office , you get messages like this: "We're sorry, but the clip you requested is not available from your location". I'm sorry, what?!

Where Dell Succeeds, Citibank Fails

PR Meets Marketing

As people who have read my blog, I have a bone to pick with Citibank regarding their email marketing tactics and, in my opinion, poor customer service (see here and here ). still don't understand how they are voted one of the best.  . Mack Collier at The Viral Garden wrote about Dell's turnaround in the social medium. If only Citibank could follow suit. Simple ways to provide better service and participate:  . Monitor and respond to any posts about Citibank. Respond to snail mail letters with a letter, email or phone call. Obviously, this didn't work either. Rhodes, CEO of Citibank: 29 Days.

I have a new job. in viral marketing

Anything Goes Marketing

No, I haven't left my current job. I've added a second job working for the Dundler Mifflin Infinity team, Sudbury Ontario Branch. I'm not joking! submitted my application on the new Dundler Mifflin Infinity website which was accepted and I plan to help them sell paper. My first task was adding that nice banner ad over there. Go ahead and give it a click. You use paper, don't you? If you watch the show The Office on NBC like I do with my wife most weeks, you'll understand what Dundler Mifflin is all about. NBC has created an entire online campaign to build on the theme of the actual episodes.

745 marketers told us how effective their content marketing is. Between November 5 and November 17, we surveyed 601 marketers with an 18-question online survey. A few weeks later, Adweek sent the questionnaire to 144 additional marketers. As the survey was answered by nearly our entire population target, the calculated margin of error was approximately 1 percent. Here's what we learned.

Is Self Publishing Right for You?

My Travels on the Net

It seems like every service professional has either written a book or is planning to write a book. They've heard time and again that writing a book will build credibility and attract new clients. And increasingly, they are turning to self-publishing or print-on-demand as a way to publish their book. It seems to me that professionals turn to alternative types of publishing because it's less intimating than the traditional publishing process. When you self publish you don't have to write a book proposal, you don't have to pitch your book and you don't have to deal with rejection.

Is There a Social Media Expert in the House?

My Travels on the Net

I'm working on an article about blog promotion and needed a definition of "social media" so of course I looked it up on Wikipedia where I found the following message: So, if you're an expert on social media, you might want to sign up to be a Wikipedia editor. Personally, I wouldn't want to paint such a big target on my back but maybe you're braver than me

Two More Social Media Sites to Check Out

Here's another social media tagging site look into, as well as a new place to keep track of everything web-related that's important to you. First, Zanby is a new social media site. Okay, with Digg , del.icio.us , Searchles , Zimbio et al does the world really need another such site? In this case, yes—Zanby combines features common to other social tagging sites (such as the ability to browse and create groups) with a powerful set of collaboration features, such as the ability to upload/share documents and photos, create lists, arrange events and start or contribute to message threads.

It Was too Good to Be True. Blog Comment Links Don’t Count After All.

My Travels on the Net

When RainToday published my article "How to Blog Without Having a Blog” earlier this month, they requested a few edits and called it “Using Blogs to Attract Attention”. Prior to publication, the editor asked me to address the question of whether or not links in blog comments help your website's rankings. posted the question to a trusted SEO forum and while I didn't get a definitive answer, no one said “No. It seems reasonable, right? link to your website counts as a link to the search engines. That's where I was wrong. To prevent “comment spam” Google uses the “no follow” tag.
