According to this DoubleClick study published in eMarketer, promotional emails are more effective in influencing adults over 55 to make a purchase than search engine result pages. But then again, neither was Google until it invented AdWords. Indeed, Facebook as a company has yet to prove it can do much more than aggregate an audience.
