I do think there is some validity to that, and it is up to the companies how much control they really want to cede to someone else.

I advocate participating in Twitter, and I’ve certainly grown my own audience via that channel, and it should be part of almost every company or business professional’s social media tool kit. In true Twitter fashion, it wasn’t “rolled out” per se, it just appeared as part of the API that third parties access. Don’t get me wrong.
