Let's take a look at ethical AI. Here are examples of ethical AI practices that demonstrate a commitment to fairness, transparency and user/mental well-being.

Popular Netflix shows such as The Coded Bias have shown us the crippling effects of biased algorithms as early as 2020 (that’s two years before the generative AI craze ignited by OpenAI’s ChatGPT). This ethical approach prevents discriminatory outcomes in the hiring process, providing fair opportunities for all candidates.

This established branch of AI, known as Explainable AI, has prevailed over the more opaque black-box systems. It's clear why individuals prefer transparency in these systems, as it builds and accrues trust — a quality increasingly scarce in today's world, characterized by a hyper-trust deficit.

Organizations implement continuous monitoring and auditing mechanisms for AI systems. By regularly evaluating the performance and impact of algorithms, companies can identify and rectify any unintended consequences, maintaining alignment with (evolving) ethical standards. There’s impetus to put in place good governance frameworks even before the first bot, algorithm or process is built, written or deployed!

In healthcare diagnostics, AI is positioned as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for human expertise. Medical professionals work collaboratively with AI systems, ensuring that the final decisions incorporate both technological insights and human judgment for a well-rounded diagnosis. In fact, Kai-fu Lee in his seminal book "AI 2041" depicted human doctors as almost pure empaths, communicating diagnoses and treatment plans to family and caregivers, aided by AI in the delivery of these procedures.

Tech companies involving diverse stakeholders, including customers and community representatives, in the development and testing phases of AI applications. This inclusive approach helps identify potential biases, ensures a variety of perspectives and addresses concerns early in the process.
