PearlsQuotes and Other Pearls: (Read time: 2-3 minutes) Surprising how many instances (below) still apply.  The quotes and but some of the threads of the technology tapestry, including citation and sourcing as I could find.  Enjoy.

1.  “The present letter is a very long one simply because I had not the leisure to make it short .”  (Often paraphrased as a reference to write crisply; from French philosopher and theologian Blaise Pascal’s “Letters Provinciales”, letter XVI, 1656-57; mistakenly sometimes attributed to Mark Twain).

2.  “Any sufficiently advanced technology, is indistinguishable from magic.”  (Arthur c. Clarke’s third law from Profiles of the Future, 1973 )

3.  “…be as smart as you can but (remember that) it’s always better to be wise than to be smart.”  (Alan Alda in his  commencement address at Connecticut College, 1980)

4.  “We  have become the tool of our tools .” (Henry David Thoreau, Walden, 1854)

5.  “640K ought to be enough for anybody.”  (attributed to Bill Gates, 1981, but Gates denies ever say iting.  Lives on as urban legend w/out an original citation).

6.  “You can’t just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they’ll want something new.”  (Steve Jobs)

7.  A video clip on the Twitter Frenzy 3/2/09  Ok, so not a quote, but too funny to ignore: Jon Stewart and The DailyShow, Comedy Central –  .

8.  “During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet” (response by Al Gore to a Wolf Blitzer CNN question asking Gore to list his accomplishments that separated him from other Democratic presidential hopefuls.)  FYI, the Internet/web turns 20 this month.  Here’s a link to BBC News covering the topic.

9.  “If I want to knock a story off the front page, I just change my hairstyle.” (referenced to Hillary Clinton in a Forbes magazine article in August 2007)

10.  Computers are useless. They can only give you answers.”  (attributed to Pablo Picasso but no original citation found)
