With the complexities and nuances of planning, producing and publishing a wide variety of content, content marketing teams inevitably end up with a stack of tools. Of course we all feel some platform fatigue from time to time, but with the right software, content teams can be more productive, organized, and consistent.

In determining which platforms will be the best fit for your organization, it’s good to compare the options. To help you in the content marketing platform arena, we’re providing a comparison of DivvyHQ vs. Basecamp.

In the comparison, we’ll look at multiple categories, including:

  • Pricing
  • Content ideation
  • Content and editorial planning capabilities
  • Workflow and collaboration offerings
  • Content production and asset storage features
  • Publishing functions and integrations
  • Content and team performance analytics
  • Service and support
  • Setup and implementation ease

Comparison Methodology

How did we complete the comparison of DivvyHQ vs. Basecamp? Our staff dug into various resources, including company websites, free trials, knowledge bases, review sites, and additional sources. The full report and methodology is available here: Content Marketing Platforms: DivvyHQ vs. the Alternatives.

DivvyHQ vs. the Alternatives

In deciding what features to spotlight, we included the tools and features that content, marketing and communications teams need to do their job. Consider the criteria to be similar to those used by analyst firms Gartner and Forrester for the annual reports they publish on content marketing platforms (CMPs).

While we did our best to gather all available information, we certainly may have missed something. Not all platforms provide all details to the public.

If you’re a staff member of Basecamp, and you see something we got wrong, leave us a comment. We’ll fix it.

Now that we’ve defined the how, let’s get started.

Enterprise Pricing

The cost of software influences your choice, and different platforms use various cost models. It’s important to note that Basecamp is a general project management (PM) tool, and this category often has low-cost models, but not always.

It’s probably safe to say that Basecamp has the simplest pricing model of all platforms in our analysis. They literally have one plan that gives you their entire platform for $99/month. You can have unlimited users and unlimited projects, but there is a pricing cap on your account’s file storage.

DivvyHQ also has unlimited user plans for larger teams, but due to our very unique and specific functionality for content, marketing and communications teams, our platform will be more expensive than Basecamp.

Considering Basecamp’s very limited functionality, this basically turns into a “you get what you pay for” scenario. More on that below.

Content Ideation

divvyhq vs. basecamp - content ideation

Ideas are the catalyst for content. Centralizing these can be cumbersome without some form of storage mechanism. DivvyHQ has a powerful hub to do just that, where you can develop those ideas into projects. You can also set up request intake forms that anyone can use to request content. Content recommendations are also available.

The only function Basecamp has in this category is a place to store ideas.

Content and Editorial Planning Capabilities

Planning content is a significant part of executing your content strategy. Having the right tools here can help you be more proactive and facilitate workflows for efficient production. The most crucial feature here is the content calendar.

DivvyHQ core architecture revolves around content teams being able to create multiple content calendars to manage all initiatives throughout the organization. Basecamp does not have any of this. They do have a calendar interface, but it’s just a visual representation of project deadlines that can be color coded and prioritized.

Divvy content calendar features:

  • Flexible architecture allowing for different calendars for content channels, content properties, brands, locations, departments, business units, or other segments
  • Drag and drop rescheduling of entries (i.e., projects, tasks, etc.)
  • Robust filtering
  • Shareable views for non-users
  • Project and task prioritization
  • Duplication of projects
  • Multiple views (list, calendar, etc.)
  • Color-coding
  • Content strategy metadata management, which enables filtering and reporting of the data (Users find this helpful in understanding what groups are receiving what content.)

Both platforms have campaign planning and management. Basecamp has resource management functionality, which DivvyHQ doesn’t currently have.

Workflow and Collaboration Offerings

matt watson quote

Technology is critical to help teams manage content workflows and collaboration. With these features, you can stay organized, be more efficient, and eliminate manual work. In this category, the applications share these offerings:

  • Task management
  • Automated workflow scheduling, notifications, and reminders
  • Real-time browser notifications
  • Commenting with @mentions in content to tag users

DivvyHQ also includes custom workflow building capabilities and the ability to automate them.

Content Production and Asset Storage Features

The features in this category include content production and asset storage. As DivvyHQ is a content marketing platform, it contains some things Basecamp doesn’t:

  • Social post editor
  • Content archive and auditing
  • Unlimited storage for content and assets
  • Asset library

Both platforms have these production and storage features:

  • HTML content editor
  • Change tracking and version history

Both have an open API.

Content and Team Performance Analytics

DivvyHQ Analytics

Content analytics are integral to succeeding in content marketing. Many times, it’s hard to aggregate data from various sources, making it difficult to have a 360-degree view of performance. DivvyHQ makes this a priority, gathering data from many areas to streamline analysis and insight.

The software allows you to assess performance with time tracking and reports for on-time completion and content strategy alignment.

Basecamp doesn’t have any analytics features.

Service and Support

Another critical aspect of software is the service and support you receive. After deployment, your team should have peace of mind that someone will answer the phone if support is needed. DivvyHQ is very supportive of its users. They receive live onboarding and a dedicated support team. We’ll also perform a review of your platform usage, content strategy with recommendations and an analytics assessment. Users can get on-demand online support chat.

Basecamp only offers online support chat.

Setup and Implementation Ease

Everyone wants technology to be easy. Both DivvyHQ and Basecamp are configurable in less than four hours and don’t need any custom coding.

Security

Another consideration is the security of the software. DivvyHQ provides robust user permissions and rules, SSO (single sign-on), and two-factor authentication. Basecamp only has user permissions and two-factor authentication.

Everything Else

Finally, both solutions are mobile-friendly. Additionally, neither require an administrator or a full-time employee to manage.
