Help us give a warm welcome to our new Creative Director, Martin Walsh. With a background in marketing (and music) and a hunger for new ideas, he’s already jumping right in to bring our clients’ campaigns to life. Haven’t met him just yet? We sat down to ask him some questions to help you get to know him a little better and here’s what he had to say.

1. Do you have any nicknames we should know about?

Some people call me Marty, but that’s allowed only because she’s my wife. 😉 But I usually go by my full name.

2. What are your favorite and least favorite foods?

I would have to say I LOVE Thai food. I was a fairly picky eater as a kid, but as you travel and work at various places you enjoy some amazing food. My favorite is Thai Green Curry which is a lunchtime staple at creative post-production sessions.

3. What is your favorite part about working in creative?

This must be divided into two. First, the creative work. Coming up with concepts and bringing them to life. Second, the people. In this industry, we have people from all creative areas all working as a family. I think it takes a special personality to work in Advertising. Some humor, grit, thick skin, and a constant hunger for new ideas.

4. Why did you choose RDW?

I feel it is a perfect match for me. The people here have a great combination of talent, and friendliness that contributes to a more harmonious work environment. Our industry can be stressful at times, so you need to have level heads to thrive.

5. Who’s your idol? Why?

If I were to have an idol, maybe Paul McCartney. I’m a musician and a huge Beatles fan. You could equate being in a band to our work. You have many personalities working together creatively to great success. And their song composition journeys are similar to how our advertising ideas work. You must work on lots of ideas before you land on that one, great idea.

6. What’s your favorite place you’ve visited?

I’d say Oxford UK. I participated in a college exchange program while attending the University of Rhode Island. I went to a small college called OxPoly which was located right next to that “other” university. The memories of living there, meeting new friends that I still stay in touch with, and the beer. Did I mention there was beer?

7. Cat person or dog person? Why?

I probably am both. I grew up with both. We currently have our sweetheart of a German Shepherd named Bella.

8. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

To have the power to travel through time. More than anything, I’d love to jump back to certain timeframes and just hang out. Go to a jazz club in New York circa 1938 or something.

9. What was the most rewarding project/past achievement you’ve been a part of?

Of the many years of creative projects, I would say the recent health work for the Connecticut Department of Health to try and encourage more people to get their COVID vaccine. We worked with the most brilliant minds in medicine in Connecticut. Our job was to capture their message and amplify it using our creative talents to bring it to the populace.

10. What’s your background (educational)?

I graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in Marketing and minors in Art and Management.

Welcome Martin! We’re looking forward to sharing some good eats at those post-production sessions
