Antivirus and firewalls: viruses, spyware, Trojan horses, and some tracking cookies make “going online” risky. Ad-blockers: intrusive ads fill screens, hog bandwidth, auto-play unwanted videos, and take attention from how we try to live our lives. Lesson for leaders. If you had told Google and Facebook when they went public in 2004 and 2012 that they would capture one-fifth of global advertising revenues in 2016 they would have thought you were crazy.
