As far the legal aspect, all a trademark/copyright holder has to do is submit a DMCA request and Facebook has to review and take action on it. Considering Facebook acts as more of an aggregator than the actual source (like a blog post), it would seem more prudent for them to go through the provider hosting the content, like a web host.
