I don't mind being alone. I'm an only child of two only children who had me at 42. grew up as the only kid in my neighborhood. Now that my folks are gone, I don't have close family since I don't have kids. The good news? get to choose my family. I've been lucky to meet great people throughout my life, friends who are my family. I'm so blessed by my special family. They answered their phones at all hours of the night to lighten my terrors. | PHOENIX RISING DECEMBER 31, 2009 Think Small Everyday, someone on Twitter or Facebook bring joy and a smile to my world. It's the day for New Year's Resolutions yet again. We're all making our lists of ways to be better people, do better things, spread joy to more of those around us. What a worthy cause! So why wait til New Year's? We can make those same resolutions every day of our lives. Just as the spirit of the Holidays can inspire us - resolutions to do good things can lift us every day of the year. Our New Year's resolutions often take time to complete. | | | | | | | PHOENIX RISING JANUARY 24, 2010 No DMs Please We all know how annoying all the Twitter 'Thanks for following' DMs are, right? I am amazed at the Power of Twitter and other Social Media platforms to network with like-minded folks. I'm also continuously shocked at the seeming lack of just plain common sense (or maybe in this case it's common courtesy) from folks on social media - especially Twitter. So, here are a few little clues for anyone using Twitter. Just when I thought it was bad - it got worse. Mine have become downright out of control these days. | PHOENIX RISING FEBRUARY 7, 2010 Twisten Carefully That's one of the best things about social media - Twitter especially. But there is also great value found on Twitter. Saying Twitter has little great info is like saying television has nothing but sports and reality TV. Similarly, we have to search to find the great insights, information and people on Twitter. But just think what we can find in the Twitter stream! My Twitter Experience I've met mentors and friends in the Twitter stream, ready to share their wisdom and expertise, as well as their hearts. | PHOENIX RISING DECEMBER 2, 2009 Lessons From a Porch Light The last few weeks I've had a barrage of pornographic messages on Twitter. My email reflects Twitter. From strangers, webbots and automated email systems to Twitter porn stars and spammers. They are obscene, graphic and embarrassing. block the senders and delete the messages, but they just keep coming. My other friends are getting them as well. We all feel so powerless to do anything to stop them - so we do the best we can and delete and block - again and again. Everyday I get a multitude of invasive, downright obnoxious and over the top communications. | PHOENIX RISING FEBRUARY 8, 2010 Life in the Stream My Twitter stream went from this powerful, positive information-filled environment to a running stream of sarcastic comments whose seeming purpose was to diss every advertising firm involved. Twitter is a real time audience feedback mechanism! also added a third column - for all the folks who were on Twitter but who hadn't said a single word about the game so far. Huge audiences are alive and speaking on Twitter. Every audience demographic we could imagine is active on Twitter! I watched the Super Bowl at home last night. Wow! | | | | | | | | | -
PHOENIX RISING | WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 2009 A Shiny Needle in the B2B Marketing Haystack Take a look at a recent post regarding Twitter and tell me if that isn't some pretty amazing content! There's so much information available across the web. It's a tough task to find the most relevant content for your own B2B efforts. Even aggregrators compile too much information - making the search for B2B Marketing content feel like that proverbial hunt for the needle in the haystack. Tom Pick and Tony Karrer decided to do something about it. They created B2B Marketing Zone as a resource for serious B2B marketers. Here's the scoop. Tony: Well said Tom. MORE >> -
PHOENIX RISING | TUESDAY, MARCH 2, 2010 If it Looks like a Duck. Whether it's on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or the host of other social media sites. The freedom to share has increased our debates. used to think some people took a contrarian point of view just to feel important. We all know those types. But thanks to social media that behavior has expanded to include all of us. That's one of the powers of our connected world - we can all voice an opinion, share our perspective, debate an issue. We revel in our new power. Yet I have to wonder if some of this freedom is counter-productive. If so - go for it. MORE >> -
PHOENIX RISING | THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2009 We CAN be Civilized! Then more blogs came along, and more FaceBook wall posts and Twitter requests. Signs are all around that we're sliding down a slippery slope. It's obvious to so many of us that 'society' is moving beyond civilization - following the path of the once great Roman and Greek cultures. Business priorities are questionable, personal lives are filled with violence and disrespect. The mighty quest for success seems to be rising above all things, including dignity, honesty, common courtesy and even our own kids. Quite the 8 year old. Noah doesn't. MORE >> -
PHOENIX RISING | SUNDAY, JANUARY 31, 2010 Is Life Fair? " Bill Gates I shared this quote the other day on Twitter, noting that it seemed a bit cynical to me. "Life isn't fair. Get used to it." immediately received an RT from someone who didn't think it was cynical - it was the truth. Life isn't fair. More people agreed - and frankly, I was shocked. I kinda pushed back and one person responded using the earthquake in Haiti as an example that life is not fair - and how could anyone think it was? think life is fair. But I still think life is fair in the balance of all things. MORE >> -
PHOENIX RISING | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2009 Primal Thinking Another gal friend DM'd me on Twitter to tell me she loved irony in my post. I wrote a post last week entitled Ready, Fire, Aim. closed with what I thought was a cute little double entendre' Something lifke "Who knows, maybe we'll hit the bullseye!" " followed, by a picture of a bull's eye.the Wall Street Bull's Eye to be precise. Get it? If we focus on our goal and hit the bullseye, we'll do well financially. My gal friends got the pun. My guys friends didn't. expected a couple of my buddies to give me the big thumbs up. MORE >>
