Marketing departments in all kinds of companies are using the power of being 'personal' as a way to attract customers and win business.   Personalized profiles are all the rage in outbound marketing.  Somehow - that doesn't seem like a truly personal approach.    A mass production of 'personalized' information is just that - a mass communication.    Customers and prospects, friends and family see right through those approaches, especially when we aren't thoughtful about our personalization.

My Personal Trust Initiative I'm going to step up myself and do the following five exercises to rekindle my own trust, and hopefully stimulate some trust in those around me. 1) Shake hands on the deal. I'm beginning a small project in my home. I've been waiting for a detailed estimate, but  that's changing. I'm going to shake hands on the deal and let the work begin. I'm going to show my contractor that I trust him to do a great job and charge me a fair rate.  So there's my own personal plan to add a bit of trust back into my world.

Those are the last words I expected to hear in  the AT&T store. I’d run in all excited to purchase my new iPhone yesterday. You see, my Palm Centro is on its last legs. After playing with my friend’s new iPhone on Sunday, I was jazzed. I ran home on Sunday night and placed an order with Apple. even paid for fast shipping, so I could get it ASAP. Yes, immediate gratification was in charge!  declined.

  Do NOT fib, make up stories, make promises you can't keep, distract by being negative or blame another company or person. The person or vendor who admits they have a problem and talks to you about how they plan to fix it ?  The person or vendor who sits there and justifies why the issue is not their fault, points at another vendor or your staff and blames them, or tells you why the issue just isn't that bad (even if it is interrupting your ability to take orders, or ship product).    Especially with customers? So what do you do?

know, there are experts who will defend the use of fear as a strong motivator in business and personal situations. personally don't believe or support the idea that fear is a great motivator. I don't believe that relationships, based on fear have staying power.
