That Personal Touch

Phoenix Rising

Marketing departments in all kinds of companies are using the power of being 'personal' as a way to attract customers and win business.   Personalized profiles are all the rage in outbound marketing.  Somehow - that doesn't seem like a truly personal approach.    A mass production of 'personalized' information is just that - a mass communication.    Customers and prospects, friends and family see right through those approaches, especially when we aren't thoughtful about our personalization.

My Personal Trust Initiative

Phoenix Rising

My Personal Trust Initiative I'm going to step up myself and do the following five exercises to rekindle my own trust, and hopefully stimulate some trust in those around me. 1) Shake hands on the deal. I'm beginning a small project in my home. I've been waiting for a detailed estimate, but  that's changing. I'm going to shake hands on the deal and let the work begin. I'm going to show my contractor that I trust him to do a great job and charge me a fair rate.  So there's my own personal plan to add a bit of trust back into my world.

In an Instant

Phoenix Rising

I didn't know him personally, only on sight.  Life changes - in an instant. I was riding the Headwall lift at Squaw Valley last week. It was a gray snowy day, but all us locals were out playing in the storm. noticed a gang of the local hotshots up on the Light Towers, a series of gnarly chutes off of the Slot - a famous Headwall run. What fun to be young again! Darn it!

Crisis or Opportunity? It's Our Choice!

Phoenix Rising

Those are the key ingredients for success - in business or our personal lives. believe that a lot of it comes down to attitude and beliefs.   How?

Drama Sells, Even When its BULLoney!

Phoenix Rising

Just think what it can do for our work life, our personal life and our kids!     Tags: My Own Personal Soapbox The great minds of Apple gave us innovation today. Thanks to the iPad, I can access anything I want on the web, watch  videos, write a blog post, create a presentation, run a spreadsheet,  read my book or magazine and email as I like.    I can carry one small iPad onto the plane or in the car and do everything I need to do.    Wow -I just lost ten pounds of luggage!    After all, drama sells, right?

Fair Play

Phoenix Rising

Now that I think about it - we've even lost the concept of Fair Play in our sports heroes. I won't keep going - we all know the examples, in business, government, sports and our own personal lives. In our personal lives we'd learn to trust again - knowing that everyone we encountered was playing according to the rules of Fair Play. Tags: My Own Personal Soapbox Fair Play ruled in my upbringing - in everything from horses to golf to piano competitions to life itself.  The rules have changed.   Has Fair Play become ancient history?   Hmmm.

But We CAN'T

Phoenix Rising

What about in your own personal life?   In our personal lives 'cant' often signals that we're just plain stuck in a rut. Tags: My Own Personal Soapbox Transformation 'Can't' is a destructive little word. How many times a day do you say or hear the word 'can't' in your business?    Try paying attention for a day and see what you find - in yourself and in those around you. You may be surprised at the power this little word is wielding over your life. Sometimes it never enters the room.  Yes, it can. We can.

Vision and change is also key to business growth.    We must seek out and embrace new ideas, new ways of being, new markets and new opportunities. We must evolve and change to thrive. So, how do we blend vision and focus? The key is to identify and focus on those truly great ideas - focusing until we bring them to fruition in our business. That may sound easy, but all too often it's not. Because new ideas and opportunities keep popping up. We never get anywhere.

I'll Try.

Phoenix Rising

Whether in business or your personal endeavors, following Master Yoda's wisdom will change your life and your business. 'Try' is little more than a cop out.   Isn't your responsibility to your business or personal commitments just as important? 'Try' avoids a commitment to success.  'I WILL' Tags: My Own Personal Soapbox Transformation Do, or do not. There is no 'try.' Jedi Master Yoda I never thought I'd open a blog post by quoting a short green alien. Yet wiser words have seldom been spoken. YEAH for them. we tried.

Tell the Truth

Phoenix Rising

Do NOT fib, make up stories, make promises you can't keep, distract by being negative or blame another company or person. The person or vendor who admits they have a problem and talks to you about how they plan to fix it ?  The person or vendor who sits there and justifies why the issue is not their fault, points at another vendor or your staff and blames them, or tells you why the issue just isn't that bad (even if it is interrupting your ability to take orders, or ship product).    Especially with customers? So what do you do?

Case in Point.      In every turnaround, there are executives and employees hanging onto the way we've always done it. The reasons?
