There was an interesting discussion, and a little disagreement on the panel, over whether every B2B should have a Facebook page. ” Others said “probably not every B2B” Cisco is finding Facebook is a new referral engine, as a place where loyal ambassadors of then Cisco brand connect with Cisco. And so much of it! | MARKETING LEADERSHIP COUNCIL SEPTEMBER 5, 2012 4 Things to Watch Before 2013 Here are a few numbers to keep an eye on: digital CPMs, major corporate pullouts from social advertising platforms, Facebook’s share price. Can you believe it’s September already? Here in the US, Labor Day has come and gone, kids are back in school, the pools are closed, traffic is (very abruptly) much worse, and there’s a tiny hint of chill in the air at night. | | | | | | | MARKETING LEADERSHIP COUNCIL SEPTEMBER 19, 2012 4 Ways B2Bs Can Integrate Digital LinkedIn vs. Facebook). We recently polled B2B CMOs on their top priorities for next year and “Digital integration” came pretty high on the list. Since buyers increasingly delay contact with Sales in order to do their own supplier research online, digital is a pretty hot topic for B2Bs. But the big question is how to tie those digital channels together with the rest of Marketing’s work. | MARKETING LEADERSHIP COUNCIL AUGUST 7, 2012 How to Fail at Social Media These metrics tend to be platform-specific: the success of a Facebook campaign might be shown in “Likes” recieved or fans added, while the success of a Twitter play might be shown in favorites and retweets received. Social media’s not so new anymore, but brands seem to be in the midst of high-profile failures all the time. So, we thought: if we were to create a guide on how to fail at social media, what would it look like? Here’s what we came up with: Don’t develop a strategy. “Put an intern on it,” you’d hear from senior leaders. | MARKETING LEADERSHIP COUNCIL JUNE 19, 2012 3 Steps to Better Content Marketing When social media was new, many of our members set up teams to focus on Facebook and other social platforms; we found, though, that social must be integrated with the rest of the company’s marketing efforts and coordinated by a Ringmaster (you can read more about our HBR article here ).Just Content marketing is becoming a bigger part of many B2B marketers’ lives: The Content Marketing Institute found that over 60% of B2B marketers plan to increase their content marketing budget over the next year, and over 90% of B2B marketers are using content marketing to build their brands. | MARKETING LEADERSHIP COUNCIL OCTOBER 5, 2011 Bursting the Big Data Hype Bubble Here’s where I think it’s safe for marketers to START: use Big Data and analytics to figure out who to STOP marketing to, or when to STOP trying to engage them with a direct mail piece, or yet another email, or yet another plea to join in a Facebook contest. Here’s the cynical interpretation of what is evolving in the marketing space right now. And so they do. | | | | | | | | | -
MARKETING LEADERSHIP COUNCIL | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2012 How GE Healthcare is Disrupting Cancer So GE Healthcare launched a social media campaign on the back of its big Olympic presence , asking consumers around the world to share their healthy choices on Twitter, Facebook, and Chinese microblogging service Sina Weibo. Clearly, GE Healthcare is hoping that its Olympic ads find their way onto healthcare providers’ and procurement officers’ television screens, and that their #GetFit campaign shows up in their Facebook friends’ status updates. Are you in the market for an “advanced digital radiographic imaging” device? How so? MORE >> -
How Big Companies Can Stay Innovative Lots of innovators loosely fit this mold; Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg began his company in a dorm room, Apple’s Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak (as well as HP’s Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard) began theirs in a garage. Apologies in advance; this will be a bit long, but it’s an important topic that’s worth deep exploration. You’ve been warned! It’s totally logical, if you believe this narrative, to also believe that true innovation becomes nigh on impossible once a company reaches a headcount that won’t fit in a storefront office. Focus. MARKETING LEADERSHIP COUNCIL | WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2011 Fighting A Foul Reputation Not limited to just passersby, it also has its own Facebook page. The mortgage mess and resulting global financial crisis put big banks, insurance companies and finance organizations at the top of many Americans’ “Most Hated Companies” list – a position once reserved mainly for airlines and cable companies. According to a Gallup tracking poll, in 2011, less than one quarter of Americans say they have “a great deal” or “a lot” of confidence in banks – good news only in that it is higher than the 18% who said the same in 2010. Not if you do it the right way. MORE >>
