Many demand generation systems already make it easy to look up data about prospects from sources like Hoovers or JigSaw and to infer the location and company of anonymous visitors from their IP address. I haven’t seen much analogous activity among business marketers, but think that will change as the technique becomes more common and as business marketers accept that internal data will never provide all the answers they really need for effective marketing measurement. Summary: the demand generation market will continue to grow in 2010, and it may attract some new, big competitors from outside the industry.

But, the structural issues are much harder for buyers to grasp, so this might not be an effective marketing approach. At least three vendors added or enhanced features to use IP address to identify the company of anonymous Web visitors, and/or to look up prospect names and other data about those companies in directories such as Jigsaw and Hoovers. Summary: Social media and access for sales people were the two big trends among demand generation vendors last year. But enhanced reporting was the most common improvement of all.

I think this is a key to sales effectiveness. Best Bets helps them use that outcome more effectively without requiring them to dig through reams of data. But what makes this helpful is the integration with Jigsaw, DemandBase and LinkedIn. Those of you who read my blog know that I'm passionate about marketing automation. Unfortunately, our research shows that B2B marketers face significant obstacles in telequalifying quickly and effectively. I had a good chat with Garth Moulton , co-founder and VP Community of Jigsaw , the sponsor of the CADM event. As it turns out, Garth does not answer his phone anymore because his contact details are featured in Jigsaw as a working example . Today I spoke to a group of B2B marketers at the Chicago Association of Direct Marketers (CADM) on the topic of B2B Online Lead Generation and Management . After presenting here a year ago at the MarketingProfs

It integrates with Jigsaw to show company details like revenue, and available contacts for a specific company: contacts can be bought for $1 each directly at Jigsaw.
It’s fairly basic compared to some of the more expensive systems, but effective and easy to use.

Starting to see providers team up with data aggregators (Jigsaw’s name comes up here) to provide new sources of business contacts. These methods are becoming less and less effective - email open rates are falling, response rates are falling, connect rates on phone calls are declining, etc. This originates from Jigsaw, and provides Executive names, phone numbers, and email addresses without any additional subscription. There are four primary buckets of technology solutions aimed at solving the “how do I make lead generation activities more effective?” Recently, I’ve heard from companies like Bulldog Solutions, InsideView, Jigsaw, netFactor, Reachforce, PointClear, Genius, Leads360, among others. been geared towards *processes* -- they take the page tag data and tie it to individual people so that they can communicate with those people directly and effectively. We checked the companies out with the LeadLander Jigsaw link, and were able to identify 2-3 marketing contacts per company. Measure the effectiveness of campaigns.
The Jigsaw link is very nice, especially if you have an unlimited Jigsaw license, like Green Leads . We thought it might be interesting to augment our thought leader interviews with some demand gen product reviews . We are keeping the reviews independent--actually using the products/services, and then critiquing them.
