If you have a strategy for integrating this content with your storyline this can be effective. I've read quite a bit lately about the suggestion that marketers become content curators in lieu of developing content of their own. However, in my opinion, too much reliance on other people's content can diminish your prospects' preference for your company as a solution provider.

Assuming that consumers spend about the same amount of time with both, and that advertising on both is equally effective, online media should get a larger share of ad budgets. Social media could be a better investment -- if we could find a way to use them effectively.

Of course branding and awareness are also roles that can be played effectively by B2B marketing, but from my point of view these are only supporting roles—secondary to the primary objective of helping drive sales.
My quest for quantitative proof that social media is an effective tactic for generating B2B leads and sales continues.
In the meantime, I’m I’m probably biased, but I believe the primary objective of business-to-business marketing is driving sales of the company’s products and services.

My checklist for optimizing the lead generation process so far has included six steps: the mindset of not pushing ; repairing the rift between sales and marketing ; creating the ideal customer profile (and the un-ideal customer profile as well); agreeing upon a universal lead definition that fits your company’s goals and culture; importance of a well maintained database ; and, in step 6, I outlined a multi-modal approach and discussed its importance in the lead gen process.
