Does digital marketing make you feel inadequate?

I teach a lot of people about digital marketing. Some of them are veterans at digital, but many are new. They might not be new to marketing, but they are trying to learn digital marketing. They all have that same look in their eyes–that one of inadequacy.

The reason they feel inadequate is because digital marketing is so vast. No matter how much they know and how many skills they have, they are constantly looking inward and decrying what they can’t do:

  • I’m no writer.
  • I can’t do analytics.
  • I struggle with technology.
  • I am lousy with graphics.

Here’s what’s true. Nobody can do all of those things. And nobody needs to.

If you’re struggling with digital marketing, find the one or two things that you feel you can do. Start there. You’ll run into other people who are good at what you can’t do. Work together to bring together all the needed skills.

You don’t have to have all the skills. You don’t have to feel inadequate. You’re more than up to the task.
