We’re pleased to present Consultants Collective Profiles, an initiative designed to introduce you to our member consultants, advisors, executive coaches, clients, partners and other extraordinary people. These profiles go beyond the professional bio to provide a more personal glimpse, and offer an opportunity for us to get to know each other better as people as we strive to create connections and build community. This month we’re pleased to feature Chris Lyon, CEO of SPAN Digital, one of our technology partners.

Who are your favorite heroes in fiction?

Hmmm.  Lisbeth Salander…Gandalf….Baby Yoda….that’s how I’m feeling today at least.

Who is your favorite painter or composer?

Of recent painters Scott Musgrove. Or Tim Layzell.

What is a hobby of yours?

Maintaining and driving vintage cars.  I love having a spirited drive early in the morning on the many beautiful California backroads that aren’t so easily found.  When not doing that, I enjoy reading books or tinkering with guitars.

What is the last book you read?

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.  It was okay.  I’m ready to jump back into the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown.

Why do you do what you do?

I really enjoy working with smart people who I enjoy being around, and continually learning from them.  Most of what I know has come from my experience being a musician, playing in bands, trying to run a small label, managing a recording studio and more. Being in a band where you’re in touch with your audience on a daily basis, creating music, living off that creative output, is a great set up for many lessons about running a business — including a technology business.

What are you listening to currently?

TR/ST “Joyland”,  Hum “Inlet” and Fontaines DC.  Khruangbin is on a lot at the house and office too.

What is your latest accomplishment?

Raising two young kids in the time of COVID and not freaking completely out.

What would you say is your chief characteristic?

I’m curious and receptive. I know…that’s two characteristics.

What makes you happy?

Sleeping in on the weekends (that usually means 8am these days), a lazy day at the beach,  early morning drives with no traffic.
