Are You Obsessed with the Social Small Stuff?

grow - Practical Marketing Solutions

By Stanford Smith, Contributing {grow} Columnist. I get asked a lot of questions about blogging and social media. These questions range from the profound; “Does social media really matter?” to the absurd “How many words should I use in every blog post sentence?”. Ninety-nine percent of the time, I enthusiastically answer these questions. More and more people are sweating the small stuff. Listen.

Be a persistent social media parent

They always say that the parents who put in all the boring, taken-for-granted time are the very best. That it’s not even about quality time, it’s about persistent time, time spent. I don’t want to compare parenting to social media community development and management but I guess I just did. Folks

Why Lead Generation is Irrelevant

According to a 2011 study by MarketingSherpa , 74% of B2B marketers stated that their biggest challenge was generating high quality leads.  The next biggest challenge was a distant second: 49% cited “generating a high volume of leads”. One of the reasons that generating high quality leads continues to present itself as the top challenge (it took #1 honors in 2010 as well) is that marketers are focusing on the wrong thing – lead generation. However, lead generation is irrelevant in today’s b2b marketing climate. The problem is that much of the information included in a response is just not true.

The 10 Greatest Marketing Campaigns of All Time

I’ve always been a little leery of proclaiming anything "the best." I never declared anyone my best friend as a kid because I was afraid my other friends might assume I thought less of them. So it was a little difficult for me to come up with just one "best" marketing campaign of all time -- which is why I came up with 10 instead. Why are these 10 marketing campaigns the best of all time? Because of the impact they had on the growth of the brand, and because they manage to hit on some universal truth that allows us to remember these campaigns years after they first began. Yeah, I am.

3 Teleprospecting Tactics From A Tough Mudder

Sales Prospecting Perspectives

This past weekend I completed my first ever Tough Mudder event, “Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet.” ” It is described as a 10-12 mile mud run straight up the face of Mount Snow in Vermont, complete with 26 obstacles designed by British Special Forces, and meant to test each Mudder on strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. For me, it was more like 10 miles of vertical Hell flavored with 26 twisted obstacles, each meant to test my preparation (or lack thereof), tact, and ever-pressing urge to push my limits. The same goes for my teleprospecting dials.

How Much Copy Do I Need On My Landing Page?

The Point

An effective landing page does two things, I would argue: 1) it validates the viewer’s decision to click on whatever ad it was that led him or her to the page in the first place, and 2) it closes the deal. The amount of copy that it takes to accomplish these tasks: make the reader feel good about the decision to respond, and drive him or her to complete the required form, varies widely.
