As part of my goal to get "down" with the social networks, I thought I would sign up for the service Digg and even submit a few of my blog posts. If you're not sure what Digg is all about, go check it out. To back up how much this works, check out the webstats on my blog after I submitted a few stories to Digg (see image).

What are you doing or not doing on your blog that screws up your traffic? I’m posting twice a week, but I’m still not getting comments, and my traffic stats stink. I can almost predict where the low traffic problems come from based on looking at a lot of blogs over the last five years. Can you take a look?&#.

For brands, social media networking sites offer an opportunity to build awareness, create a community of customers and followers and drive traffic to websites. Use Pinterest Shoppable Pins to tag products in your posts and allow users to purchase them without leaving the app. Generate traffic back to your own blog.

There is a great article on tips to bump up and improve your blog traffic on SEOmoz.org called " 21 Tactics to Increase Blog Traffic ". They mention that Ask.com's blog search is good to use to search for blogs of interest Don't add comments until you build up enough traffic Watch what you submit to Digg and Reddit.

And while tweets, likes, and +1’s are now becoming important ranking factors alongside links, having websites link back to you is very much still a basic requirement for getting search engine fueled website traffic. Digg is great for traffic generation, and while not the powerhouse it once was, is still a large community.
