Who is your favorite fictional hero?

Bilbo Baggins. A humble character in both disposition and stature, he relies on wit and perseverance rather than brute strength to succeed.

Who is your favorite painter or composer?

Rockwell Kent. His images have always resonated with me. His images depicting the stark and austere landscapes of the northernmost reaches of the world as well as the human figures that feel to me as if they are colossal even when drawn at a human scale.

What is one of your hobbies?

Amateur Lumberjacking. I love being in the woods, and just outdoors generally. When I can combine this with super satisfying physical labor using axes and chainsaws it gets me out of my head and tunes me in. It also keeps us warm in the cold northern winters!

What is the last book read?

I’ve half-read a bunch of books recently, but the last one I finished was The Power. In this story, women develop the ability to generate strong electrical power from their hands resulting in a re-ordering of gender power dynamics.

Why do you do what you do?

Social Media Consulting? Throughout my professional journey, I’ve always helped people to share their stories in specialized venues, whether it is a courtroom, senate chamber, or on Twitter, it is all about empowering people to connect and be heard in spaces where they might not feel like they would otherwise have a voice. Also the money, I do it for the money too.

What is your favorite quote?

More a paraphrase than a quote, “Sometimes the only way out is through.” I had to look up the source and there are a couple of candidates, including lines from Dante’s Inferno and the Robert Frost poem A Servant to Servants. Wherever it came from, I like and think of it often.

What is your latest accomplishment?

I do try to be grateful for even small wins, so renovating a very dilapidated garden storage shed into a really charming potting shed is the ‘latest.’ But scaling up a bit, I’d say whatever contributing role I played in helping our oldest child Oliver to successfully launch into the world as an adult, punctuated by his successful recent relocation across the country to Southern California.

What would you say is your chief characteristic?

Great question! I’ll choose to read “chief” as “best” for the purpose of this answer. I’ll go with empathy.

What makes you happy?

Lots of things, but family travel is the most reliable.
