To assist small businesses with the daunting task of making a mobile optimized website, Google conducted a study called "What Users Want Most From Mobile Sites Today." From the Hubspot Blog, here are 20 statistics from the study.

Smartphone Users and the Mobile Browsing Experience

  • 96% of users have encountered a site not designed for mobile devices
  • 67% of users are more likely to purchase from a mobile-friendly site
  • 74% of users are more likely to return to a mobile-friendly site
  • 79% of users who don't like what they find on a mobile site will look for the information they need on another site
  • 52% of users say they're less likely to engage with a company after a bad mobile experience
  • 50% of users will use a business less if their site isn't mobile-friendly site, even if they really like the business
  • 48% of users feel frustration when on poorly optimized sites
  • 36% of users feel they've wasted their time when on a poorly optimized site
  • 48% of users regard a poorly optimized site as an indication that the company doesn't care about their business

Ideal Smartphone Browsing Experience

  • 76% of users want to get location or operating hours
  • 61% of users want to be able to click-to-call the business
  • 54% of users want to be able to send an email to the business
  • 53% or users want to download an app
  • 48% of users want to access a company's social networks
  • 41% of users want to play a video clip
  • 78% of users want to find what they're looking for in just one or two clicks
  • 78% of users want an easy to find and use search bar
  • 76% of users want a mobile site that better fits their smartphone screen
  • 64% of users want to only scroll up and down, not left and right
  • 69% of users want bigger buttons
  • 74% of users want sites to look clean and efficient
  • 74% of users want the option to go to the full, non-mobile site
  • 73% of users want the site to save information for future reference
  • 73% of users want shorter forms with fewer fields
