ExactTarget and Eloqua Stake Their Claim To Centralized Customer Management

Customer Experience Matrix

You probably saw ExactTarget ’s June 13 announcement of its strategic partnership with Marketo and Eloqua ’s June 21 announcement of its new AppCloud marketplace for connectors with other systems. But it took a little while to connect with the vendors to get the details, so I’m only now ready to write about them. That Eloqua sees itself as the center of a marketing infrastructure isn’t surprising, although it does show how far we've traveled from the once-common view of marketing automation as an auxiliary to the sales automation “system of record”. So did I. Oh well.

Bislr: A "Marketing Operating System" That Includes Marketing Automation As An App

Customer Experience Matrix

There was a really interesting discussion this week over on Scott Brinker’s ChiefMartec blog about the evolution of marketing automation systems into “platforms” that each support a swarm of satellite applications connected through open APIs. This means the platform strategy provides less value than many vendors and investors assume, although it may be needed for competitive parity.

Openprise Gives Marketers Easy(ish) Tool to Manage Their Data

Customer Experience Matrix

When I first described Customer Data Platforms two and half years ago, all the vendors offered an application such as predictive analytics or campaign management in addition to the "pure" CDP function of building the customer database. Integrations with Oracle Eloqua , HubSpot and Salesforce Pardot are planned by end of this year. Some can run in real time through API calls.

Everstring Offers Fast, Flexible, Account-based Predictive Models for B2B Sales and Marketing

Customer Experience Matrix

Today, at least a dozen vendors are offering predictive models for B2B lead scoring, sales intelligence, and customer success management. Many of the original scoring vendors specialized in a single application. This lets the vendor charge more to each client and blocks out potential competitors. Everstring has standard integrations with Salesforce.com , Marketo and Oracle Eloqua , which can send data for the initial model building and score new accounts as they are added to those systems. Remember how much simpler life was back in 2010?

Optify Lets Agencies Provide Small Business with Marketing Automation, Distributed Marketing, and Sales Enablement

only mention this because I’ve recently been looking at a lot of new (to me) vendors and haven’t been able to write about many of them. This makes it a system for both small business and service vendors: two of my four themes. Landing pages can be attached to an auto-responder email, while standard fields on forms are automatically mapped to Salesforce.com.

The company plans additional API connections with Jive, ZenDesk , and other systems. Influitive founder Mark Organ was co-founder of marketing automation pioneer Eloqua. Vendors are another matter: there’s inherent scale economy to scanning the Web and social media once and applying the results to many different clients. Connectors are currently available for Marketo and Salesforce.com , with an Eloqua connector due soon. External systems like Web sites can also accessed the data in real time via API calls.

HubSpot Spreads Its Wings

Customer Experience Matrix

App markets are quite the fashion right now, and HubSpot’s joins the Eloqua AppCloud announced in June. In both cases, what’s really happening is the vendor has published APIs that make it easier for other vendors to build products that integrate with their systems. Such APIs are available to varying degrees for other marketing automation products too, so an app marketplace isn’t quite as huge a leap as it may seem. The folks at HubSpot have been busy this summer, announcing their acquisition of Performable in June and their HubSpot App Marketplace last week.

Aprimo Marketing Studio Supports Sophisticated Business Marketers

For more on vendor classifications, see my list of demand generation vendors from last November.) In other words, Marketing Studio competes with high-end demand generation systems like Eloqua , Market2Lead and Neolane. Small digression: most business marketing systems are designed around data from a sales automation system such as Salesforce.com. Eloqua and Market2Lead are based on sales automation data, but can incorporate external tables. External systems can also add names through the Marketing Studio API. You know who you are. Good stuff.
