We call it "polite persistence" here at AG and I was very proud that the prospect not only responded to Brad, but took the time to compliment his approach and work ethic. The best email subject line I've seen in my career came through my Inbox this week. Brad G, one of our inside sales reps shared an email he had received from a prospect praising his persistence in prospecting him. Love to see that. As I was closing out the email I glanced at the subject line that Brad had sent to the prospect. It read " Attention: Jim - Final Follow up". or "do I know Pete"? Next he uses Jim's name.

They know how it works: in this case they’ve actively chosen not to use it. The problem here stems back to the fundamental difference between B2B and B2C marketing, and understanding where the line exists between work and home lives. Regardless of who ultimately wins (won) the election, as co-owner of a small business, I’m frankly shocked by the fact that none of the political parties seemed to make any attempt to communicate with me as such. But no-one seemed interested in promoting themselves as being particularly pro-small business. Frankly I feel a bit disenfranchised.

During my years as an Inside Sales rep, I've always appreciated working with the young hungry territory reps willing to talk to anyone "with a pulse". While I could appreciate that work ethic and the tenacity that hungrier reps displayed, I usually found that passing over anything lukewarm usually resulted in a lead that didn't go anywhere.and generally I was cold calling back into that company months later. On the other side of the coin, I struggled when passing leads to the veteran sales folks who wanted every opportunity completely teed up. Current technology/service in use.

I've recently been on the conference circuit, speaking and tweeting whatever sales and marketing goodness I can find. One topic that came up at each conference was the quality of the content presented by the various speakers. Some sessions were brilliant; some were nothing more than veiled commercials. The key as an attendee is to be able to pull the brilliant content out of the commercials. The key as a presenter is to avoid the commercials and present brilliant content. Simple, right? Let's face it. And as attendees, we kind of owe it to them to listen. That said, we want to hear value.
