What if LOWERING Quotas Improved Sales Results?

Jim Dickie of CSO Insights ( The Sorry State of Sales Today ) revealed that 86% of businesses raised quotas in 2010 (Similar results in 2011 t0o.) , despite the lowest quota achievement ever measured (59% for 2009 and much lower in 2010). (Editor’s Note: This post should create some controversy. Telling CEO’s and VPs of Sales that they are wrong is fun.).

Purchases are fun, but…….they don’t move the business needle

When used primarily as an email engine, adoption is “probably more than 50% (DemandGen Report, October 5, 2010). We enjoy buying things, like cars, golf clubs, iPads, and vacations.  I do too. Problem is, just spending money does not move the business needle. Sales lead generation takes a lot more. Buying a sports car does not make you a great driver. The data supports the last point.
