Lead Gen 2.0 - Social Media & Search Alone Won't Attract C-Level Buyers

Smashmouth Marketing

Social media is all the rage right now, and it should be. It is shaping how people communicate, how companies and people brand themselves, how we educate ourselves and how we grow our network. Lead generation in the world of b2b can be enhanced by social media, especially with early adopters, techies, and the net-gen crowd. The best lists we've seen for the money are from Jigsaw hands down.

Does Green B2B Marketing React Like Social Media Marketing

Smashmouth Marketing

Several readers and fans have asked before, what is with the "Green" in Green Leads ? What does b2b lead generation have to do with being green? Employee turnover and client retention is a huge issue in our industry and Linda and I wanted to combat those issues head on. Responsibility and quality was key to this decision, and it all stemmed from our practices of green living. Green is in.

Alton Brown's Green Holiday Fruit Cake - Good Eats

Smashmouth Marketing

I just made Alton Brown's Fruit Cake recipe again. All organic, btw. I've done this for several years and not only is it incredibly good, the apricot brandy I spray on it brings extra holiday cheers. Ok, so the brandy wasn't organic and was shipped from somewhere far away, but you can't green everything. Seriously, this is NOT the fruit cake you know with the artificial colored fruit bits in it.

Funnelhollic Craig Rosenberg on B2B Lead Generation in a Down Economy

Smashmouth Marketing

I was with Craig Rosenberg in SFO a couple weeks ago and were having a hot discussion on the economy, marketing, and Thai food. Craig: I wrote a post that I continue to stand by: 3 Changes You Must Make : re-message to reflect the changing buyer, retarget to find prospects who are likely to buy, and redefine their lead definition. Not adapting will mean failure. Craig: Green, of course

Ethics & Wonder/Amazon's Mechanical Turk/Kiva

Smashmouth Marketing

Having already experimented with outsourcing some database work to India, we thought we should give a try to Amazon's Mechanical Turk. From the FAQ page: "Amazon Mechanical Turk is a marketplace for work that requires human intelligence. The project is comprised of thousands of repetitive tasks and some research that anyone with basic business background can accomplish. That's $6 per hour.

Simple Marketing - The Gas Price Sign

Smashmouth Marketing

Other than general vicinity and locale to your running out of gas, how much marketing does a gas station really need to do. I can see some of the top company branding (Exxon-Mobil, Shell, Sunoco, and Citgo), does anyone really care who they buy gas from? In many cases the only competition that exists is the station across the street. Then there is the price sign. Food as the product feature?

That Clank When We Used To Hang Up The Phone

Smashmouth Marketing

Remember the old rectangular wall phone with a rotary dial that we all had before touch tone (ok, some of you just got dated as young). I was just watching an episode of Mad Men and without paying much attention I heard that "clank" sound when those old phones got hung up. That was one of the most nostalgic sounds I've heard in years. simple "thud" or a "clank", some plastic, some metal. Enjoy!

Comparing Apples to Oranges Part 2

Smashmouth Marketing

I had to followup to my previous post regarding the massive proportion differences between European food and American food. So I lugged the orange and apple in the previous photo from Germany to home, and I placed some good old Whole Foods fruit next to them (btw, the reason the iphone is in the photo is for size reference - someone asked). My point is in the photo. Consider meats though.

Comparing Apples to Oranges

Smashmouth Marketing

As you can see from the picture of my long time friend and colleague, Steve Hyde , cars are not the only thing oversized in the US. Our fruit is noticeably bigger (20% - 30%) than this example of an orange and apple from Cologne Germany. We were sitting having breakfast this morning and Steve brought an omelet to the table and it was small, maybe 1 egg. Is it genetic modification? selection?

Did We Get Screwed For 8 Years or Are We About To Get Screwed, (cause you know he's in for 8)

Smashmouth Marketing

So my wife and I are now like Mary and James Carville. well, I spend most of my time in the blue. So my point is philosophical. Does a new party mean "change"? Change implies some permanancy. firmly believe Obama coming in just means a new "cycle". Change inspires optimism. It has also been proven that economic and social change takes 5-10 years to make a lasting impact. Does it matter?

Call me a geek, but I'm a gamer. Competitive scrabble being one of them. I've played some live tournaments, not many, but I've got more than 2000 registered tournaments on the Internet Scrabble Club and a tournament rating of 1112 (at the moment). Tonight was a great night with a triple spanning bingo JUBILEE for 123 points. triple spanning bingo is when your word also covers a red triple square.

Poker Math and Marketing - Lead Equity

Smashmouth Marketing

I happen to enjoy poker tournaments and am a math geek poker player, which is a different breed. Part of winning in poker is understanding the equity of your hand. I'll bypass all the math and explain it in layman's terms. Basically it is the value of your hand as it relates to the investment you have made in it. believe this applies to demand gen as well. So back to poker.

Antipasto or High Fructose Corn Syrup?

Smashmouth Marketing

Arived in San Francisco a couple hours ago and thankfully I passed up the $7 airplane "snack". know the flight attendants thought I was a bonehead because I asked if I could see the nutrition labels. They had one open so I took a peak. Then there was the strawberry mush that looked like red applesauce, again with HFCS. The cheese and crackers looked ok, but not for $7.

Call for Eco Art & Lawrence, MA

Smashmouth Marketing

One of my top causes, Groundwork Lawrence , has put out a call to artists for Eco-Art that can be donated to their annual fundraiser on Dec 11. What qualifies? It incorporates at least one of the “3 R’s” (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). It promotes environmental awareness. It educates others about environmental injustice, and/or conveys a vision for addressing it. The Boathouse itself is a great facility.

Who is the Greener Candidate?

Smashmouth Marketing

After months of hearing McCain and Obama's green policies , the verdict is out. The winner is everything green. Their opinions may differ, they may stray on some policies or feel passionately about others. Green issues have made it to the prime time. The topics of economy, security and social issues may remain red and blue, but they have all gotten a shade of green this year from both parties.

PostSecret , reminded me of a post I've been wanting to write. How do I stay on top of what needs to be done for the company, the house, my family, for? A few years ago I started using the GTD system that became popular as a result of the book Getting Things Done by David Allen. The article links to all sorts of online resources. Then hit archive or delete and never worry about it again. If you do.

A couple years ago a friend turned me on to Improv Everywhere. They create scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Performance art. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 70 missions involving thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City. Frozen. No movement. They held it for five minutes. Brilliant!
