LEAD VIEWS | MONDAY, AUGUST 16, 2010 The Giants in the Marketing Technology Landscape This is IBM’s 8th marketing and data related deal since 2008 – Cognos, iLog, Lombardi, Initiate, SPSS, Sterling Software, Coremetrics and Unica. IBM recently announced that it has entered an agreement to purchase Unica in a cash transaction worth approximately $480 million. The multiple IBM is paying for Unica is very encouraging (IBM is offering $21 a share to Unica shareholders, more than double the share’s closing price on Thursday last week, on the Nasdaq Stock market and the highest level the stock has ever seen). LEAD VIEWS | THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 2010 Salesforce’s ‘LEAD’ing intentions! The announcement caught a lot of people by surprise because the last significant purchase by Salesforce was for InStranet at $31.5m, in August 2008 and the latest purchase was for almost 5 times the cost of previous one, making it the biggest acquisition for the software company till date. Salesforce.com on Wednesday announced its definitive decision to buy Jigsaw , the business data provider for $142 Million in cash, plus a performance-based earn out of up to 10% of the purchase-price.
