The Future of Marketing

Marketing Insider Group

I was recently directed back to an article from late last year in Fast Company magazine called The Future of Advertising by Danielle Sacks. In the article, she talks about the impact of the changes that digital technology, social media and real-time expectations are having on the advertising industry. And it got me to thinking about the marketing industry as a whole.

Marketo Email Campaign Keeps It Short & Sweet

The Point

A client confessed recently that one of the reasons his company had selected Marketo as a marketing automation provider was because he was so impressed by their marketing. His logic (presumably): if a technology provider is promising to help improve our marketing effectiveness, shouldn’t their own marketing reflect those same high standards? (Tangentially, I’d argue that more companies should select marketing agencies by the same criteria.).

It’s Time to Embrace Editorial as a Profit Center

B2B Memes

Early this week, Steve Yelvington made a comment on Twitter that reminded me of something I’ve been mulling over for some time. “Our newsrooms (or whatever we choose to call them) should be engines of success,” he said , “not cost centers.”. He’s right, but I prefer stronger phrasing. If the people who hold the pursestrings are to pay attention, we need to call editorial what it is: a profit center.

B2B Memes

In a compelling but slightly unnerving blog post today , Amy Gahran argues that journalists should accept the fact that people are, in many ways, psychologically wired to resist the truth. Fighting it is pointless, she says. Instead, “to help people understand how things really are,” journalists must find ways to “to accommodate—not deny—these psychological tendencies.
