With Marketing budgets being tight and ROI more important then ever, there’s a major focus to get the most bang for the buck.  Decisions to drop high expense/low return tactics such as paying for exhibitor booths or sponsorships are becoming more common in exchange for speaking at events and creating more content to be distributed online.

Let me start off by saying that I’m not a fan of the term “social CRM” as I believe that adding social media as a channel to CRM platforms is no different then when we added online forms and chat.  It’s simply another channel of communication between you and your customers to handle any issues and it’s still CRM. As social media continues to make it easier for consumers to communicate with one another and share experiences and information, companies are changing their marketing priorities to line up with the trends and greatest impact.  We now see companies focusing on Owned Media, Earned Media, and Paid Media in that order. paid media.

One of the great opportunities that social media allows us is to find and connect with people and companies with similar interests and reach out to them with an efficiency we’ve never seen before.  While many join social networks with the thought of “I’m here new customers. Come to me!” Social media trumps the Contact Us form. Same here. 
Over the last few months I’ve attended the various, great professional networking events that Chicago has to offer; everything from Small Business Round Tables to Social Media Club to breakfast meetings with other entrepreneurs, etc.  Now before any social media fanatics blow this off as “It’s them, not Twitter.”, Phase 1: The “This is stupid.”
Business.com recently published their 2009 Business Social Media Benchmarking Study which shows that the use of social media is no longer a question of adoption but of utilization.  Below are some interesting statistics that should interest those using social media for business. The following is a list of great blog directories which help increase site traffic and search engine rankings.  This is beneficial to both existing and brand new sites and will simply get more visitors to your blog.  None of these directories cost money and none (other than Technorati) ask to place their badge on your site. Recently, BtoB and the Association of National Advertisers updated a study they originally did in 2007 regarding the use of social media by b-to-b and b-to-c marketers. 57% of b-to-b marketers are now using social media as a marketing tactic compared to 15% in 2007. 70% say they use Twitter (compared to only 46% for b-to-c marketers).
