I volunteer as sous chef at a Washington, DC , homeless kitchen. They serve fresh, organic dinners to folks who really need a healthy meal. Miriam’s Kitchen treats everyone who dines there as respected and honored guests. I have learned a lot about how to be a much better social media marketer as a direct result of working both in the kitchen as a sous chef and also as dining room captain.

And, across brand after brand, time after time, Id try to ask them about what their marketing strategy was, so I could tell them how social can fit in. I finally gave up asking that, because I found that what they really wanted was (pick one) a Facebook fan page/Twitter handle/blog/something even dumber.

Google’s Screenwise Asks “How Do the Little People Search?”

Google is an interesting company. It seems like they have little sense of what each of its various parts are up to at any given moment. Maybe that’s why Larry Page has come in and tried so hard to get a unified Google in front of everyone. I do like those neat commercials with all the Google product and services logos swirling around–well, uh, they are swirling around the Chrome logo, which I don’t really get, but let’s not quibble.
